JSJC Alumni return to campus to interact with students

October 17th Sonipat: Jindal School of Journalism and Communication had its first alumni meet where six students from the journalism and corporate communication field came to talk about their careers in both fields on 16th October 2023 at Big Bang Conference room at O.P. Jindal Global University.

“The idea is to bring back their (alumni) experiences for the current students who are currently in the courses whether they are F&M, CCPA or J&MS”, said Professor N. Ramakrishnan, as he introduced the event. The six alumni present all graduated from J&MS, the oldest course offered in the school. However, they have all branched out in journalism and corporate communication.

“We haven’t tutored any of them on what to say today, I hope they tell you how the outside world is quite different than what we have here. I’m looking forward to hearing your stories” said Prof. Kishalay Bhattacharjee, Professor and Dean, JSJC, welcoming them.

Satvika Mahajan, who graduated in 2021, is currently a reporter at The Hindu. She started by talking about the nitty-gritty of her current job and how JSJC gave her a great balance. Next, we had Asawari Jindal who is currently working at NewsX as an Assistant producer and an anchor. She talked about how her first job at FlintCulture (a PR agency) helped her land a job and her transition from an online job to an offline job. Next, we had Ishita Dang who is a junior producer at MoneyControl, and spoke about the importance of network building in today’s job market.

Chetna Vasudevan, India Today's assistant producer, talked about her life after graduating from JSJC. Previously a Junior Producer with the digital arm of NDTV, she managed the YouTube channels for NDTV & NDTV India. Followed by Chetna was Harleen Agarwal who works at PTI as a multimedia journalist. She talked about how hard it was for her to move into a completely new city and how she managed to learn from the challenges. Lastly, it was Himanya Chadha who’s currently associated with the Reserve Bank Innovation Hub. She talked about her experience in the field of corporate communications after working in NDTV and Times of India.

After the alumni’s individual presentations, they engaged with a round of questions from JSJC’s current students.
